thing #1.

ok, so when you have a wicked sore throat for two and a half days, but you're not running a fever and you don't have those telltale white spots in the back of your mouth...

...what the hell is wrong with you?

i am cranky. i don't do well with pain in general, nevermind pain that won't go away and has no clear explanation. my throat refuses to adequately address my philosophical confusion on this matter - why, throat, why do you hurt me so?

i do not know.*

*SisterCat and MomCat, a nursing scholar and walking encyclopedia of medicinal knowledge respectively, both posited that in fact, i had..."a sore throat." sigh. not that i don't trust their diagnostic ability, but still, you know. waaaah.

Ugh, I hate sore throats. Ever drink Traditional Medicinals Throat Coat tea? I have found it to be the best thing for a sore throat. (It's got licorice and slippery elm bark in it which sounds horrendous, but it's not as awful as it sounds and it's amazing how well it works. If you can't stand to swallow it, try gargling with it.)

It could be related to allergies. Every Spring, before I start getting the sneezies, the water eyes, etc. I get a sore throat. A very sore throat. As I confusedly asked my doctor about this last time I went it, she said "post-nasal drip". Its so mild that I don't really notice it until my throat tells me the allergy season is cranked to high.

I spent one night in Miami after being on Key West for several days. You'd think they'd be the same, but Miami seems to have more mold. And it almost killed me. I woke up with my eyes almost swollen shut from it. I know DC gets heavy with the humid and humid often equals mold. Maybe trying some decongestants.

cinn, i'm suspecting that's what it might be, as overnight it seems to have migrated from just a sore throat to a sore throat and a really itchy, burning nose and throat. yes, fantastic.

this is why i am up at 6:45 in the morning typing this! who needs sleep?? it's so much better to wake up every half hour or so, have to go to the bathroom from all the damn tea you drank, and then get back in bed and feel like crap for awhile til you fall asleep again. rinse lather repeat.

ugh.

and jeanne, never heard of it - does it taste like black licorice at all? because that stuff really disgusts me, so i'd probably have a tough time even gargling it! but then again, if i can handle that disgusting green nyquil when i have colds, maybe i can handle anything...

It's got other flavors besides licorice -- I don't like the taste of black licorice, either, and I can tolerate this. It's sweet and kind of viscous, and it also has fennel, orange peel, and marshmallow root in it. So while licorice is the main ingredient, there are other flavors in there that make the licorice flavor less pronounced. I actually think it tastes kind of good, and if you can handle green Nyquil I think you can definitely handle this! Feel better soon!!
