the way car ads should be.

so i was just reading my new issue of bitch magazine, and there's a blurb about how awful those new "My Fast" VW commericals are. specifically, the article laments the bygone days when "volkswagen advertising was about quiet guys dumpster-diving ('Da Da Da') and a cute Cabrio cruising under a 'Pink Moon'". while those were both good commericals, it reminded me of a far superior VW ad, one that i would seriously consider labeling the Best Ad I Have Ever Seen. you know the one: the silver jetta, the frantic guy in the suit trying to get to the wedding, the ominous yet beautiful soundtrack, and the twist ending. watch it again, because it's as good as you remember it:

and i know all ads are shilling something, but god, i wish they could all be this well-made while they're at it.

That commercial. It's beautiful. I'd forgotten.

Ohhhhh, I LOVED that commercial! The guy, the scream at the train, it is so good.
My new favorite commercials are the "I've never run this far before" Nike ones. They are so quiet and understated but as a (not very good) runner, I want that moment and even almost want to buy the shoes

I don't think I've ever seen the one you're talking about.

As for the "Fast" ads, I loved 'em. Although I wanted to go into a VW dealership and demand one, and when they said "But you don't drive a Volkswagen" I could respond "Exactly. I'm here to liberate these little guys. My WRX would *smoke* the car your pimping with them."

Well, I loved the "Fast" ads. I thought they were hysterical.

But the wedding ad. Wow. There has never, ever, been a commercial that has come close to that one. As I was reading the post, and I realized what you were going to say, my heart started to pound.

Have you seen the other VW ads, the ones which show the accident, and it's very sudden, and then the car after the accident? Also very well done.

the Fast ads are just idiotic. "it's really hard to hear the engine with all that yakking"? i wish i could see the 60 second version of the ad, where the chick gives her boyfriend a black eye and an elbow to the groin for being such an obnoxious ass.

but mike, yeah, those "safe happens" ads are really great. they've gotten really good response across the board, from what i've heard and seen...
