hades. definitely hades.

folks, i'm in a heat-induced stupor that can't be lifted for love or money. we have our air conditioner and two fans going right now (sorry, al, i'll be more vigilant about global warming tomorrow i swear). i think my freckles are melting.

more when i have the energy to think, or when the high temperature drops below 90 degrees. whichever comes first.

Yes, but I'm sure that Al would have his AC on too.

The hubby talked me into buying a new AC unit over the weekend with this line, "But a new one will be way more efficient than that old one!"

Does he know me or what?

it's true, though! did you get one with the energy star?

if i could replace the one here, i totally would (well, not now, since we'll be gone in two months, but last summer or two months ago? heck yeah). it's a built-in wall unit, though, so there's nothing we can do about the fact that it's old, and gets an A for effort, but really cools down very little.

I think that once your apartment (indoors!) hits 88, it's perfectly ok to use the fan. And lie around wearing as little clothing as possible. I had to escape last night, so I went over to my friend's apartment to grab him for a beer in Davis. He took a long time coming down & I asked why. Turns out he was lying in front of the fan nearly naked too! :)

We don't have a/c at our apartment. I've never had it before, but I'm secretly hoping that Mr. Benchley caves and goes out and buys one and has it in place tonight before I get home.

Yep. I caved on Sunday and we installed the a/c units. They're not too great, but they work okay.

But since I was spending the day in my sewing room over a steam iron (its hard to get wrinkles out of silk on a hot and humid day) I wanted a bit of a respite.

We blocked off the living room and Andrew and the cats hung out there while I sweated in my sewing room (can't have a big fan either or little pieces of silk would float away) and when it got too much I would go in the living room where it was at least 10 degrees cooler and sigh with relief. While Andrew, who was sitting on his laptop would complain about how the a/c wasn't working. ugh

I haven't had an ait conditioner in three years. After breaking down into tears last night because I couldn't sleep it was so hot, I took a mental health day from work today and have already bought and installed my new unit.

It's amazing how lethargic the heat can make you. Suddenly even THINKING hurts.
