drinking alone, and other recreational activities.

if you've been keeping up with The Dino (a.k.a. BoyCat on this blog...so many pseudonyms to keep straight), you're aware that this week he started his new gig at WGN radio. however, he is also still working his part time job at Big Nonprofitland, so for the next three months he will be working from 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. every weekday. this means, of course, that now i have to figure out how to feed and amuse myself, without his assistance, every evening from now through the middle of may.

for those of you who know me (and even those of you that don't, because i'm sure by now you have some sense), this is obviously going to be a daunting task. for instance, i gathered up all my proactive resolve and mental fortitude and went to the grocery store after work. this was my list:

spaghetti
marinara sauce
brown rice
red beans
chex mix
melba snacks
frozen spinach
rum

i am not quite sure how i am going to fashion this into a week's worth of dinners, but i'll come up with something. tonight's meal was stovetop stuffing and five spinach puffs from the freezer, so things can only improve, right?

in all seriousness, i am going to be very lonely without BoyCat around. even though we've been together for three years, i never tire of being around him, hanging out with him, talking with him. i've had other relationships where fatigue sets in much more quickly - where after awhile you find yourself wanting the other person to just go away. just go away, just for today, or just for tonight, so i can breathe and be alone and relax! but i can say with all honesty that i have never wanted BoyCat to just go away. but now he is away, and i need to figure out how to make the best of it.

any recommendations?

netflix? knitting? the library?

I feel for you, I'm sorry things will be hard for the next couple of months!

First off, I could have written that shopping list for you. I was actually wondering where the Stove Top Stuffing and Nutri-Grain bars were, but then I soon realized that you, of course, already had the ST in stock.

I would recommend, in no particular order:

1. experimental martinis
2. Dressing Dottie in doll clothes to look like B-list celebrities (start with Nichole Richie)
3. kickball
4. playing lacrosse with sauce pans and a tennis ball
5. reading Finnegan's Wake

That should do it.

Because I'm kind, I'll offer sympathy even though I could pile on plenty of bitterness in response to your 3-years-of-greatness-now-we-live-together-but-have-less-time-together comment. Oh wait...

While I'm not sure that Finnegan's Wake will help make it through the boredom, you ought to put that literary education to good use. You've clearly done well with the Irish, why not read some Kundera, De Botton, Marquez, Fitzgerald short stories, etc.

What about checking out those cafes--like Bourgeois Pig?

Just don't do what I'd do--spend more time online. Or maybe I'd call Kate, but I guess that'd me mildly solipsistic for you...

I agree with Kate about the knitting but I am a biased knitter. It is a great thing to do to feel productive even if you are just hanging around the house. I think I would try to kill two birds with one stone and take time to learn to cook really fantastic meals (after stocking my freezer with just-in-case-I-ruin-the-food frozen pizzas).

thanks for the suggestions, peeps. sadly, i am not much of a crafty person, so knitting is out. i know a lot of people like it, and that's cool, but it's just not really for me.

now dressing my cat up like b-list celebrities...that could prove interesting to all of us, in the era of the digital camera.

Well...I have free long distance and and endless supply of free time... ;-)

Maybe you can learn to knit Dottie some costumes, thereby killing two birds with one stone.

Sappy as you may be, you're unbearable sweet too.
